Nicola Flanagan

Radiographer

Nic was born in Blackburn, Lancashire and started off her working life as a self-employed graphic designer for 20 years, but went back to University as a mature student and studied Diagnostic Radiography at the University of Cumbria. After qualifying she started working on the mobile MRI and CT trucks scanning humans. She moved over to the animal side and worked for nearly 6 years for Burgess Diagnostics on the MRI & CT trucks, travelling the length and breadth of England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and the Channel Islands, visiting many vet hospitals, specialists, first opinion and veterinary universities.

When not working, or on the road she adores her 4 rescue dogs, which now consists of 3 Staffies and 1 Frug (French Bulldog x Pug). As well as her own dogs, she has done a lot of work with a local rescue and fostered and successfully rehomed another 7 Staffies. ‘Waving goodbye as they got in the car to leave for a Furever home was always heart-wrenching and often resulted in tears, but we looked on it like they had come to school to learn how to behave in order to be successful for the rest of their life’

Aside from life revolving around dogs, Nic loves to go walking, mountain biking, canoeing, motorbiking, travel and watching films. Also owning a motorhome allows making the most of the weekends and finding mini adventures all over the country.

Adam Bell

BSc BVSc CertVC CertSAM MRCVS
Diagnostic Imaging Clinician

Adam graduated from Bristol University in 1992 and spent 2 years in mixed practice before returning to Bristol to start a PhD. Within a few months he realised he missed the clinical work too much and returned to mixed practice, developing an interest in cardiology. He moved to a small animal practice in Bristol in 1998.

After 4 months travelling the world at the end of 2001 Adam moved to West Yorkshire to join Calder vets in 2002. He received his RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Cardiology in 2002 and started seeing referral cases in the developing referral service at Calder, becoming a partner and then Director of Calder Vets Ltd. He received the RCVS Certficate in Internal Medicine in 2006 and has particular interests in ultrasonography, ultrasound guided biopsy techniques and endoscopy.

Having acted as interim Clinical Director when the referral team at Calder transitioned to Paragon in 2018, Adam then concentrated on helping develop the Internal Medicine referral services, and in 2022 took on a dual role, continuing to see medicine referrals while also providing ultrasound and CT examinations and interpretation to the growing medicine team.

After 6 months running the Oncology service, Adam took on a full-time imaging role from January 2024 and continues as part of the medicine and oncology teams when needed.

Adam enjoys practical teaching and with the Business Relationship Manager has started to provide ‘Lunch and Learn’ sessions to help referring practices improve their confidence in using their ultrasound equipment.

Outside of work he enjoys walking, running, cycling, live music, cooking and red wine, in any order.
