Dermatology

Our expert dermatology referral service offers treatment and medicine for your pet’s skin, ear and fur conditions including itching, infections and hair loss.

Led by veterinary dermatologist Siân Harries, who is an Advanced Practitioner in Veterinary Dermatology our team offers treatment for several common conditions including:

  • Itchy skin (allergies, parasitic disease, bacterial and yeast infections)
  • Recurrent ear problems (otitis)
  • Hair loss (alopecia)

Your initial consultation will usually last from 60-90 minutes, where we will take a thorough history and examine your pet. We will always discuss potential costs, outcomes and possible risks.

Your pet may need to stay with us for investigation and treatment after the consultation. We have extensive hospitalisation facilities to care for your pet if they do need to stay with us.

To aid in the diagnosis and treatment of the condition, additional tests are usually required. These include in-house skin sampling for parasites and microbial infections, blood tests and allergy testing.

Some conditions may require your pet to be admitted to our hospital for further investigation but most dermatology cases are usually sent home on the same day. Siân is supported by Nicola Swales, our Dermatology nurse, who helps to ensure that you can keep your pets treatment plan on track and assists with on-going in-house investigations and treatments such as allergy vaccine administration, ear flushes and cytology.
