We are looking for an additional Neurology Specialist to join our busy Neurology and Neurosurgery service at Paragon Veterinary Referrals a multi-disciplinary small animal referral centre. As part of a truly multi-disciplinary team, you will work alongside an experienced ECVN diplomate and one ECVN Resident, and other Specialists in soft tissue surgery, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, emergency and critical care, and anaesthesia. We also have a dedicated and friendly imaging support team. Our philosophy is very much one of friendly co-operation between clinicians in every specialism sharing our aim of providing the best possible level of care for clients, their pets and for referring veterinary surgeons.

The successful applicant is expected to hold an ECVN  or ACVIM-Neurology Diploma or to be eligible for ACVIM-Neurology or ECVN Diploma examination after having completed an approved neurology residency program. Due to the high neurosurgical caseload, experience in neurosurgery is preferable. The Candidate also must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom.

In-patient care is a priority and includes 24-hour veterinary surgeon and nursing attention including an ICU. Weekend cover is based on a shared rota with other clinicians.

Facilities include a 1.5T Toshiba Elan MRI scanner, Toshiba Aquilion Lightning 16 slices helical CT scanner, a surgical microscope specific for neurosurgery, Toshiba Ziehm Solo Mobile C-arm fluoroscopy unit, Toshiba Intuition 701C direct digital radiography system, and Neurogen TruTrace NCS/EMG/EP neurodiagnostic system. 

This position will be well remunerated, and the package includes 6 weeks paid holiday plus bank holidays and your birthday off (TOIL). Our full time working week is split over 4 days. Two weeks of funded CPD each year, a week for approved committee or examining commitments, a non-contributory pension, and private healthcare.

Paragon is centrally located within easy reach of Wakefield and Leeds, Leeds Bradford Airport, and the national rail and motorway networks. It is only a short drive away from the Peak District, historic York, Harrogate, and the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

We are looking for an oncology intern to join our well established and busy oncology service. 

Our oncology service is run by a Double Boarded Diplomate in Medical and Radiation Oncology and a dedicated Oncology Nurse.  

This role will assist with the consultation and management of chemotherapy cases and with our new superficial radiation therapy service. We are looking for a clinician with a keen interest in oncology and some oncology experience would be required, though training will be provided to develop a skill set in diagnosis and management of oncological conditions.

A completed general rotating Internship would be preferred.

Job Details – One-year neurology internship

The Practice

Paragon Referrals offers an extensive range of multi-disciplinary clinical services, facilities and equipment to first opinion vets in Yorkshire, the North of England and beyond. It is home to a team of dedicated veterinary surgeons and highly skilled veterinary nurses who provide outstanding treatment and care for patients and a high standard of service to owners and referring vets.
Facilities available include MRI, CT, C-RM, Mobile DaRt, 8 consulting room and 5 theatres. Services offered include:
Anaesthesia, Neurology, Cardiology, Oncology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Diagnostic imaging, Orthopaedics, Internal medicine, Soft tissue and Reproduction.

The Role

The role will include working with our team of specialists in the centre and have a structured educational programme with journal clubs, case presentations, mentoring and support for a research project. The neurology internship is a new role to work within expanding teams lead by friendly very experienced board-certified clinician.

Successful Candidate

This is an ideal role for individuals who are positive, proactive and keen to apply and develop their skills to the highest of standards, whilst working in a challenging and rewarding environment.

Requirements

  • MRCVS with a minimum of 18 months post graduate experience in practice
  • Experience of sole charge and emergency work
  • Excellent communication skills, C1 English CERF or equivalent
  • Previous rotating internship

  • 1 year working within the UK

Full-Time Diagnostic RVN

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate RVN to join our friendly and dedicated diagnostic team.  With state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, you will be able to provide the very best of care to our patients.

Working Mon-Fri 40hrs per week with one weekend in 5 with TOIL

This opportunity would suit a dedicated and compassionate RVN who enjoys providing high standards of patient care.

Key duties will include:

  • Assisting the Specialists with any procedures/consultations/inpatient checks.
  • Obtaining samples for laboratory testing and performing in-house diagnostic tests
  • Monitoring of patients under anaesthesia
  • Working closely with the diagnostic team to co-ordinate the flow of the day
  • Taking and processing radiographs
  • Assisting within CT, MRI, Endoscopy & Ultrasonography

 

Previous experience of nursing within a referral practice is not essential, full training can be given.

Introducing a new role within the non-clinical team at Paragon Referrals.  The key focus of this role is the people agenda, administration and processing of HR and payroll systems, supporting senior leadership team with meeting management, action planning and other administrative support/tasks.  This role requires the utmost discretion and professionalism and someone who is comfortable in handling a multi-disciplinary position.

The successful candidate must be approachable, have excellent communication, time management and organisational skills as well as high level of attention to detail.

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to

  • Manage the people and payroll elements of the hospital, including but not limited to:
    • referral vet and intern rota
    • vet and intern holidays
    • manage, organise and collate data related to payroll
    • process payroll
    • managing and maintaining HR systems
    • process new starters and leavers
    • create induction plans for new associates
  • Support team leaders to carry out ‘people’ meetings such as probation meetings or return to work
  • Manage CPD, including updating spreadsheets, assess budget and viability, book courses if appropriate and communicate outcomes with line managers  

Previous experience of working within a senior administrative or office manager role would be essential.  HR/Payroll experience desirable.

Working hours for this role is 40 hours per week Monday – Friday.

Introducing a new role within the non-clinical team at Paragon.  The Operations and Project Support Lead is an integral part of the running and maintenance of the hospital, with the key focus of successfully managing and implementing business wide and hospital projects. 

The successful candidate has excellent communication and people skills, excellent time and project management skills with a high level of attention to detail.  As this is a new role the ideal candidate must be comfortable/confident working within a remit that currently has little structure and needs developing.

This role would suit someone who has great self-management/direction and is comfortable applying initiative to complete projects/tasks.  The day-to-day duties of this role are likely to vary depending upon the business needs and some projects may be landing with the hospital for the first time.

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to

  • Oversee hospital projects as identified within the annual business plan
  • Oversee central projects and internal controls set by Linnaeus/Mars including internal controls audits
  • Co-ordinate projects, including but not limited to identifying and engaging suitable project lead, managing timelines, assisting with planning and meeting deadlines, with clear governance and accountability for delivering with stakeholder management 
  • Maintenance of hospital and IT systems with support from the central IT team
  • Support H&S and Facilities Lead
  • Implement and maintain an effective communications framework including newsletters, notice boards and weekly wrap up
  • Manage and book vet student placements and work with Linnaeus to support new graduate training days
