We are looking for an additional Neurology Specialist to join our busy Neurology and Neurosurgery service at Paragon Veterinary Referrals a multi-disciplinary small animal referral centre. As part of a truly multi-disciplinary team, you will work alongside an experienced ECVN diplomate and one ECVN Resident, and other Specialists in soft tissue surgery, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, emergency and critical care, and anaesthesia. We also have a dedicated and friendly imaging support team. Our philosophy is very much one of friendly co-operation between clinicians in every specialism sharing our aim of providing the best possible level of care for clients, their pets and for referring veterinary surgeons.

The successful applicant is expected to hold an ECVN  or ACVIM-Neurology Diploma or to be eligible for ACVIM-Neurology or ECVN Diploma examination after having completed an approved neurology residency program. Due to the high neurosurgical caseload, experience in neurosurgery is preferable. The Candidate also must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom.

In-patient care is a priority and includes 24-hour veterinary surgeon and nursing attention including an ICU. Weekend cover is based on a shared rota with other clinicians.

Facilities include a 1.5T Toshiba Elan MRI scanner, Toshiba Aquilion Lightning 16 slices helical CT scanner, a surgical microscope specific for neurosurgery, Toshiba Ziehm Solo Mobile C-arm fluoroscopy unit, Toshiba Intuition 701C direct digital radiography system, and Neurogen TruTrace NCS/EMG/EP neurodiagnostic system. 

This position will be well remunerated, and the package includes 6 weeks paid holiday plus bank holidays and your birthday off (TOIL). Our full time working week is split over 4 days. Two weeks of funded CPD each year, a week for approved committee or examining commitments, a non-contributory pension, and private healthcare.

Paragon is centrally located within easy reach of Wakefield and Leeds, Leeds Bradford Airport, and the national rail and motorway networks. It is only a short drive away from the Peak District, historic York, Harrogate, and the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

We are looking for an oncology intern to join our well established and busy oncology service. 

Our oncology service is run by a Double Boarded Diplomate in Medical and Radiation Oncology and a dedicated Oncology Nurse.  

This role will assist with the consultation and management of chemotherapy cases and with our new superficial radiation therapy service. We are looking for a clinician with a keen interest in oncology and some oncology experience would be required, though training will be provided to develop a skill set in diagnosis and management of oncological conditions.

A completed general rotating Internship would be preferred.

We are looking for a Registered Veterinary Nurse with a passion for inpatient care to work our desirable twilight shift. We are keen to find an individual who’s a bit of a night owl and likes to work in a small team. The hours and shifts for this role can be flexible, with different options available for the successful candidate.

This role is for a highly motivated, caring and proactive individual that can think outside the box, whilst remaining calm and positive. Working closely with other personnel at all times is essential in order to ensure the smooth running of the wards.

Key duties:

  • Nursing critical and intensive patients
  • Administering medications and carrying out treatments including drain management, physiotherapy and feeding tubes
  • Working as part of a team, alongside another RVN, ACA and intern.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene
  • Assisting with patient handovers and liaising with owners

Previous experience of ECC nursing or within a referral practice is desirable but not essential.

The Practice

The Role

The role will include working with our team of specialists in the centre and have a structured educational programme with journal clubs, case presentations, mentoring and support for a research project. The neurology internship is a new role to work within expanding teams lead by friendly very experienced board-certified clinician.

Successful Candidate

Requirements

  • MRCVS with a minimum of 18 months post graduate experience in practice
  • Experience of sole charge and emergency work
  • Excellent communication skills, C1 English CERF or equivalent

A position has opened for a highly motivated and proactive individual to manage and control the stock department within Paragon, including clinical and non-clinical items and overseeing orders placed by other teams within the hospital.  Maintaining stock levels and budgets are essential to effective and efficient running of the hospital.

The successful candidate is approachable, has excellent communication skills and a high level of attention to detail

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to

  • Placing daily/weekly orders for clinical and non-clinical items using preferred suppliers
  • Accept and manage orders ensuring accurate record keeping
  • Maintain and update stock manual and SOP’s as needed 
  • Organise/lead/manage/conduct quarterly stock takes
  • Implement stock control systems
  • Update price list and codes as needed
  • Manage and contribute to stock counts/takes/audits
  • Work alongside supplier accounts to approve invoices in a timely manner and set up new suppliers when needed following the correct protocols
  • Ensure purchasing compliance to be above 95%
  • Monitor/record wastage and aim to reduce alongside the clinical/non clinical teams
  • Source alternative or additional medications/consumables requested by clinicians following correct protocols
  • Analyse data and produce reports for the SLT when required

Previous experience of working within the veterinary industry is desirable but not essential as full training will be given.

Working hours for this role can be flexible, we envisage up to 34 hours per week working Monday to Friday
