”I Have Learnt So Much Since Working Here” – Why Become an RVN at Paragon

Molly Firth, student RVN, tells us what attracted her to work for Paragon Referrals…

I have been working at Paragon Referrals since it opened in 2018, I started here as a patient care assistant and was later enrolled to become a Student Veterinary Nurse. I am currently just finishing my second year on the Veterinary Nurse course and hopefully if everything goes to plan, I will become a Qualified Veterinary Nurse by the end of this year beginning of next.

When I first looked at Paragon, I did not really know what a referral practice was. It was not until I read more about it that I realised this was something I wanted to do. I liked the idea of doing more intricate surgery and learning more in depth about medical conditions.

Dependant on what area I am on in the hospital will vary the jobs that I do. Generally, it involves caring for the patient by giving medication, walking, checking they are clean, but then this can vary to monitoring anaesthetics under the supervision of a Vet and Veterinary nurse, cleaning theatres and prepping for the next day.

We have a variety of team leaders that are available to speak to and support us but we also have extra support over Microsoft teams to the Linnaeus support system.

I have learnt so much since starting here, I am currently at college studying to become a veterinary nurse and this has taught me so much.

I would say ‘GO FOR IT’, it can be difficult at times as can any veterinary practice, but the rewards are worth it. If you’re happy to get stuck in with the work, you’d be perfect for Paragon.”
